My athletic journey began with swimming from childhood through high school. I was never an "all star," and I lacked that competitive drive that made my peers really great athletes. During high school I stumbled onto the cross country and track teams. This is where I began to discover my competitive edge, and started to really love competing. Once in college, I no longer had an athletic outlet and really craved and missed the competitive environment that sports provided me.

I discovered CrossFit during the 2013 "Crossfit Open" and it little time, I was hooked. I was intrigued by how Crossfit founder Greg Glassman described Crossfit as "the ability to measure fitness in quantitative means." There is a real "science" to Crossfit, which I love. Personally, Crossfit helped me reclaim my competitive nature, and pushed me further athletically than I ever thought possible. I love the community within the "box" and the support of the coaches. I began coaching Crossfit in 2015, with the goal of truly being able to empower athletes. My favorite part of coaching CrossFit is helping people with all levels of athletic ability reach goals they never realized they had. When an athlete completes their first pull-up, or climbs up to the top of the rope for the first time, this is truly the best of part of Crossfit to me.

I am so excited to be the massage therapist at Kaiser CrossFit!! I am an Elementary School teacher by day and CrossFitter by evening-- soon to be your massage therapist! I have been around CrossFit for going on 4 years in February. When I found CrossFit, I had finally found something active that I loved doing but most importantly I genuinely enjoyed the people I was meeting along the way. These people turn into your community and your second family. It's funny how CrossFit communities tend to be made if of the most amazing individuals.
CrossFit has given me a drive to be a better and healthier version of myself inside and out and this was a very strong influence in my journey to become a Massage Therapist. I truly believe that CrossFit and Massage Therapy go hand in hand. It is my mission to assist in aiding recovery, improving mobility, and preventing injury. Or just helping you relax after a tough week!
I am so incredibly excited to be apart of the team and I can't wait to give you guys more dates and details!

I never thought I would be an athlete. In high school, I treated sports as more of a social event than an athletic event. I was always the girl who finished last, which I was ok with.... until I started CrossFit. My boyfriend dragged me into a Crossfit box (kicking and screaming). Once I entered the doors, there was no turning back. I have come to love every aspect of CrossFit, but I believe that the community aspect is the number one attribute that leads to its success. In addition, Crossfit brings results. I am stronger, faster, more flexible, have better endurance, leaner, and fitter than when I started. I hope that every one of my athletes is as much or more of a success story than me, and I know that my own Crossfit story is never complete, because there are always more goals to achieve.

"Successful people pursue hard things, unsuccessful people avoid them." – Greg Glassman

Hello Kaiser Nation! For the past 7 years I have been a professional in the health and wellness community as a licensed massage therapist. I am also a NCBMBT board approved anatomy and physiology teacher at Maiden School of Massage. I have always had a passion for both fitness and helping others. Even tho I will be fresh out of the Crossfit L-1 program I have already studied multiple classes under the tutelage of CFGymastics Lead Instructor Pam Gagnon. Admittedly so, I may not be the first coach you would ask for technical advice with a barbell; but I will be more than happy to share the principles and techniques that I have learned in gymnastics and bodyweight movements from the best at our sport. I am beyond excited to share this journey with Kaiser Crossfit because I truly believe in the atmosphere that Chris and Sami built for our gym. They believe that having FUN and COMMUNITY inspires GROWTH.. These key foundations are the basics to staying in shape and having a healthy FUN and FIT life.

Brandes started crossfit in 2014 right after her competitive sports life was over. She was a gymnast for 14 years, finishing out as a level 10 gymnast for 2 years. She attended UNCC and got her bachelors in Exercise Science, and became a Certified Exercise Physiologist. Brandes walked on to the pole vault team at UNCC freshman year. After training with and competing for them for 1 year, her world came crashing down. She found out she had a torn labrum in each shoulder which needed to be surgically repaired. After almost 2 full years of surgery and rehab, she was ready to train again. Brandes found crossfit and immediately fell in love. Through crossfit she has had the opportunity to train weightlifting with, and be coached by, national level lifters, qualify for weightlifting university nationals, compete as part of an amateur grid league team (intense, team style crossfit competition), and so much more. Janurary 2019, she will start on her journey to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Wingate University. She is fun loving and is always looking for ways to make fitness fun! This girl will be your number one cheerleader yet has the background to teach you the techniques behind the movements. This is a ride or die kinda chick! Don't let her sweetness fool you, this girl lift more than most guys! We are excited to have a beast like Brandes in the gym and a friend like her on our coaching staff!
